Highlights from the ASI Advanced Venomous Snake Handling Course (2017-10)

Below are some highlights from the African Snakebite Institute‘s Advanced Venomous Snake Handling Course, presented by Johan Marais and held at Butterfly World (Klapmuts) on the 22nd of October 2017.

The day started off with a theory presentation, followed by lessons on tailing, tubing, probing, and necking Mole Snakes, Cape Cobras, and Puff Adders.

Highlights from the Cape Reptile Institute Snake Handling Course (2017-03)

Below are some highlights from the Cape Reptile Institute‘s Snake Identification & Handling course, presented by Dr Tony Phelps and held at Driftsands Nature Reserve on the 25th of March 2017.

Course Day 1 (Saturday):

On the first day of the course, the attendees attended a theory lecture, learnt about snakebite first aid, and completed a practical identification exam where they got to handle more than 15 different snakes.

Course Day 2 (Sunday):

On the second day of the course, the attendees handled Mole Snakes, Puff Adders, Boomslang, and Cape Cobras, wrote a theory exam, and then completed a practical exam.

Highlights from the African Snakebite Institute Snake Handling Course in Klapmuts (2016-11)

Below are some highlights from the African Snakebite Institute‘s Snake Identification & Handling Course, held at Butterfly World (Klapmuts) on the 19th of November 2016.

The course started with a theory lecture by Johan Marais, one of the country’s most knowledgeable herpetologists and the author of several snake and snakebite-related books, followed by a written exam and then a practical handling session.

During the handling session the attendees worked with Mole Snakes, Puff Adders, and Cape Cobras.
